To first inculcate the scientific spirit in the target student group, the project aimed at transforming science labs at public and private schools. For this, the project introduced state-of-the-art laboratory equipments at these schools, refurbished existing lab infrastructure, and made students aware of how they can advance their classroom scientific learning through practical experiments. In due time, the project was able to set up labs at the SSRVM school of Dharavi, Gandhi Memorial Education society in Dharavi, Punjab Government School, and 4 labs across government-funded and private schools of Pune.
To increase willingness at the higher administrative level for advanced STEM education in underserved schools, the project designed and executed outreach programs, and connected with MLAs across Maharashtra, including the IT Minister of the state. To ensure a more on-ground impact, the project also held meetings with 600+ school principals and administrators to build partnerships for lab installations. In addition to this, the project team also presented its work to students themselves who were the final beneficiaries, for them to feel motivated to enter into advanced STEM training. The project also held corporate meetings to collate funds for the laboratories and their tools, and to recruit new trainers.
While providing students with the latest scientific tools and laboratories, the project also provided them the necessary training to participate in prestigious competitions like the First Tech Challenge. Students were first presented the benefits of these competitions, informed about the fundamental rules, and trained to form their own team and robotic models to compete in the event.
